The previously postponed bi-national Run Internacional— The U.S.-Mexico 10K is canceled.
The 10K — which winds through the shared downtowns of El Paso, Texas, USA and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua Mexico — was scheduled for November 3, 2018. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials asked that the race be postponed, citing their limited resources given current conditions on the border. Now, in the wake of the current limited shutdown of the U.S. Government, the El Paso Community Foundation and race organizers decided to cancel this year’s race.
“The federal, state and local agencies on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border are valued partners in carrying out the race,” said Eric Pearson, President of the El Paso Community Foundation, which manages the race with the Ciudad Juárez Sports Commission. “It is a great example of cross-border cooperation, and CBP is an important part of the equation.” The race would be impossible to stage without the personnel and logistics support, Pearson added.
The 2019 International 10K will be in November. Runners who registered for the 2018 race can carry over their registration for the 2019 race, or they may request a refund beginning Thursday, January 3, 2019.
